About Us

Lifting Kansas City families out of poverty since 2016.

It’s About Grooming, Love, & Hope

Our History

The Grooming Project, a state-certified grooming school and social services agency in Kansas City, MO, opened its doors in 2016 as a unique way to help combat generational poverty. As a 501(c)(3) workforce development program, we help struggling parents get back on their feet through training in the living-wage trade of pet grooming, while providing them and their children with a multitude of wrap-around services. Dozens of parents have graduated our program and found meaningful, family-supporting work in the field of pet grooming throughout Kansas City. You can learn more about our school and its work in the heart of the city here.

Christine Banks

Salon Manager & Groomer

Christine is a graduate of The Grooming Project’s very first class in 2016. Since then, she has worked as a dog and cat groomer in Kansas City.

Christine has always loved animals, but her initial motivation for enrolling at The Grooming Project was to remove her kids from the cycle of generational poverty that had afflicted her family. She found more than that, though–a true passion for grooming and for helping animals.

In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her son and daughter and watch movies.

It’s about grooming, love, and hope.

Empowering the Parent to Empower the Child (EPEC) is a 501c3 organization dedicated to reducing generational poverty in Kansas City.

Through our state-certified grooming school and our Lee's Summit grooming salon, we train struggling parents to be pet groomers and salon managers, both in-demand, living-wage trades.
